I am sharing a exciting announcement, you may have noticed the weekly livestream, in addition to that we have a series of new things this new year. And I am very happy to introduce a new co-moderator here.
Arturo Moreno or @azm28 here trained as an architect and completed studies at the Southern California Institute of Architecture. Upon graduating, he specialized urban planning and community design. Afterwards, he completed a military service stint which included extensive travel. Returning to civilian life, and intending to commence study in GIS, he discovered the discipline of geodesign and decided to pursue it instead.
At Penn State University’s geodesign program, he received his first exposure to Geodesignhub. He realized that geodesign would have changed his approach to problems encountered in other phases of his career. At PSU, he focused on the conflict over land use and development in the city of Ginowan, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. He completed a master’s certificate in Geodesign in 2017.
Subsequently, he consulted on project for urban renewal and historic preservation in Kabul, Afghanistan and has spoken at Okayama University, Kabul University, and FOSS4G Korea on the topics of geodesign, conflict resolution, community development and communication.
His clients include the Planning Departments of the City of Los Angeles, the City of Pasadena and the Aga Khan Trust for Culture.
He is currently based in Chiapas, Mexico and is also involved in the OSGeo side as well. You will hear more from him here in the coming weeks. Everyone please welcome Arturo!
